This photo was taken on Hilton Head Island during a Thanksgiving we’ll never forget. My daughter was in college at the University of South Carolina, and since they were playing Clemson over the holiday weekend, she wanted to stay to attend the game. So instead of her coming home, we brought Thanksgiving to her. Good friends generously let us use their home on HHI, where we had our first deep-fried turkey. After dinner, my daughter and her friend—who was also staying in South Carolina for the holiday—joined us, and I took a walk down to the beach. On the way back, I snapped this photo of the girls walking ahead of me. It was such a special Southern Thanksgiving, so different from the ones we usually had up north. The saying just felt perfectly suited to this memory and the moment captured.
